Romantic Rhine & Jewish Heritage 2019

8 Day River Cruise Amsterdam to Basel

2019 Information

Explore rich Jewish culture, history, and heritage on the legendary Rhine River across Germany—with touches of Holland, France, and Switzerland. Accompanying you on your cruise is renowned author, speaker, and Holocaust-survivor Eva Schloss. Eva’s story is an incredible account of survival, fortitude, loss and, ultimately, triumph of the human spirit. She escaped from her homeland of Austria after it was annexed by the Nazis, and emigrated to Belgium, then the Netherlands. Like her neighbor and friend, Anne Frank, Eva’s family went into hiding as Germany invaded Amsterdam, only to be captured and transported to concentration camps. Eva and her mother survived the loss of her father and brother at Auschwitz, and were freed by Soviet troops in 1945. Forty years after the end of World War II, Eva began to share her story through books and speaking engagements, imparting her insightful wisdom that life is precious and fragile, courage is stronger than fear, the power of good is immeasurable, and love makes the difference.

This magnificent European river cruise with notable Jewish historical locations begins Amsterdam, Holland. See the treasures of this 700-year-old city on a canal cruise along the elegant grachten lined with homes of the city’s “Golden Age”—ending in the Jewish quarter. There, you may visit the marvelous Portuguese Synagogue. You’ll also have the possibility to join a guided tour to the Anne Frank house. Visit Cologne, Germany—a 2,000 year-old city known for its gothic architecture twin-spired cathedral. Enjoy the opportunity to take a Jewish history tour, then sail through the dramatic Rhine Gorge on your way to Rüdesheim.

Continue your Rhine river cruise to Mainz for a guided walk, and visit the captivating Gutenberg Museum. You’ll also learn more about the Jewish history of the city. A Heidelberg excursion explores the ruins of its red-walled castle, or choose to visit Worms to learn about its incredible Jewish Heritage. In Strasbourg, France, stroll through the lovely La Petite France district. Stop in Breisach, Germany, the gateway to the unrivaled beauty of the Black Forest. You’ll feel closer to the remarkable history and rich culture of Jewish heritage during your European river cruise with special host, Eva Schloss.
