Foodies throughout Canada know him as a Dragon (“Dragon’s Den”), cookbook author and internationally recognized, Indian-born Canadian chef. But when Chef Vikram Vij arrived on Austrian soil in the 1980s, his dream was to learn the art of cooking from European chefs. The tricks and techniques he cultivated then have inspired his award-winning creations today – from using regional specialties to infuse international flavours into his Indian dishes to their creative and colourful presentation. Now, he’s inviting like-minded travellers to join him as he returns to the Danube’s shores to revisit his Danube Dreams of becoming an internationally renowned chef on an aptly named cruise.
On this special Danube Dreams departure with Chef Vikram Vij, foodies and travellers driven by wanderlust will cruise along the legendary Danube River through Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary – stopping at some of Central Europe’s most splendid capitals and charming towns. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to enjoy inspirational gatherings with Chef Vikram, including learning about his start in Austria, enjoying a book-signing and partaking in a cooking demonstration in Europe – the place where his foodie journey began.
In addition, as part of the Danube Dreams itinerary, enjoy a visit to Passau, Germany—called the “City of Three Rivers” at the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers. Take a guided walking tour to admire the Patrician houses and baroque St. Stephen’s Cathedral. In Linz, Austria, walk around the Hauptplatz, Austria’s largest medieval square.
